When my driveshaft went the noise sounded like a Chinook helicopter. It's probably ok to drive as damage is already done. My offside driveshaft cost about £200 fitted.

Is the aircon compressor working? Pop open the bonnet, start your engine, then press the aircon button if it's working you'll hear a click from the compressor. If you don't hear anything then the gas has probably leaked out as it only works if there is enough pressure in the system.

Sounds like you've got a leak if its not cold. Did they make sure it was holding the vacuum before they re-gassed?
