Welcome Ryan :) you'll find a few decent examples of 172s in the for sale section in here. Often you'll be able to read up on their history which can be beneficial over looking on Autotrader or other websites.

It's directed in one direction only - correct. The actual light output when using a normal bulb with reflectors is greater than the small output focused in one direction from a small LED. Audis and other cars that use LEDs on taillights are designed differently and even they don't use LED...

The problem is that the lenses in the light cluster were not designed to be used with LEDs - they are designed to reflect the light that comes from a conventional bulb which is something LEDs won't do.

They look better than I thought they would too. You need to remove the sidestrip and then remove the old bullet by the big clip in the middle. The other two smaller clips at either end should just pop off.

Couple of badges = replica AFAIK.

Mine took a while to sell too :dapprove: ended up letting it go for a few hundred less than I'd hoped.
