They're pretty slim and shorter to boot, and similar grade to stock so you're essentially just strangling it a little really. It's fine if you're on the go constantly, the Burp boys haven't had a single problem AFAIK. But on a road legal/going car I'd fork out and get a proper one

Changing the oil will help depending on how warn the syncro and teeth are. If you've been grinding around in it for yonks it probably won't make it much better as the syncro rings will be knackered
Like Dan says theres no definitive answer. Differs from box to box and the driving style. Typically if you're planning on running 250bhp ATF or more and you like to light it up, eventually you're going to come unstuck. Mechanical sympathy goes along way really. It really is a s**t box

tbh mate raid cards in a reasonable home system are a pain in the arse as it's just one extra card in your machine. The newer intel chipsets can stretch the drives just as much, there were only problems with the earlier Marvell controllers.
