either that, or more likely the inverter is fucked. It's common on Dells. Easy to change. About 65 quid possibly cheaper if you look on the bay. It's located at the bottom of the screen underneath the bezel.

Can't knock it unless you've tried it. As they say In my own experience I put it down to not going to the right people in the first place. Once burnt, people don't really want to go back to the upgrade market anymore. Judging by the above linked thread *someone* is thinking of selling up...
