I hated my decat, was on the T when I got it and put the cat back in within 2 weeks.
It makes it unbearably loud, personally felt the car was more responsive with the cat in too but that might because I didn't fear the noise. Plus they are an MOT hassle.
I also blame it for both my lambda...

Sound like you might not have lined the boss up properly when fitting it, as it should just slide on nicely by hand. And it is possible to put them on wrong, even though they are keyed with the double spline.
You will be able to get it off though, try putting the bolt on loosely like said and...

I say this a lot and no one ever listens but don't be scared into settling for a 50/50, always take it to court. Obviously only if you know you are right, which it sounds like you are. I'd revisit and double check road markings just to make sure.
What about burnt on carbon?
