Perfectly possible. As you have a laptop just get a 2.5" passport drive. You can get a 1TB for abour £130. It's usb powered. Just plug it in to whichever computer needs the files. Simples.

It's superb. To start with the change takes a bit to get used to but after a while it becomes second nature and you'll wonder why you didn't make the switch before. It's a lot of money for the 27" but it's so worth it.

There's an apps thread. You'll need an official Apple dock. Cables come with it. You need to plug it into iTunes and let it sync etc. No major deal. But you should send it back and wait. 18month contract 4 months before the new one?! Nah.
