A few of the tuners/specialists are now offering uprated ecus call them what you want Renosport, grp N, Clio Cup etc etc. Does this mean they have now been cracked so the std one could in theory be remapped to suit any future mods or is it just a case of the Reno sport ones being copied?

There is some learning of ECUs in the way they always advance to the point of det then back off slightly for safety, AFAIK most modern ECUs work this way to acheive max efficiency. But they do this between limits 95-98 RON its safe to say you would never use any other, whats the point of mapping...
It gives more safety margin, as a higher RON rating gives more resistance to pre detenation. By increasing the advance or running more boost gives the power. On a manufacturer based ECU map it will give no noticable gain.
The fact is the V6 needed 350bhp from the off, they got it correct with the looks but its just all show no go IMHO.

Save yourself the trouble of dealing with Dixons they are woeful in terms of service and attitude.
I too had UCH trouble it took 3 months to resolve luckily mine was under warrenty but it was a non stop fight with the dealer blaming Reno and Reno blaming the dealer.
Mine was caused by a water leak in the bulkhead area, it had two other units before my ownership but the dealers previous...
I would put std parts back on then sell on all your aftermarket seperate.
