Same size all around mate, for me, alpine, JBL or Infinity speakers are good value for money. Easy to change, IIRC caraudiosecurity are doing the infinity speakers for a good price atm. :) Both back and front speaker guards just pull off. Easy as

Is the mk1 a non digital dash? If so couldnt he just take the clocks apart and manually move the numbers about? Or am I thick?

Best bet mate is to try find clocks with very similar mileage. Although I'm sure it can be done, epsecially on a mk1. I'll ask a friend and get back to you.

Alternator may not be charging new battery very well, but this cold can affect batterys quite badly, especially if you havent started it for a while. My local motor factors does a free battery and alternator test in the winter, maybe yours does too, worth checking.

Front no, back yes, although some have been known to get a power sander onto the front and make it fit ;)
