True, although I personally would prefer an 05 reg 182 as opposed to an 05 reg 172.

Yep 53 reg was the cross over between the 172 & 182. I've seen a couple of the 05 reg 172's (I think one is silver) they must have been sat for a fair bit un registered.

Start off by checking your oil level on the dip stick, under the bonnet. Never ever rely on the car to tell you if it's ok at all.
