Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
you were there james? Should have said would have had a chat...I walked into Scoff and Andy having a conversation about the ECU clinic of all things...
After my box went I gave up and went off taking pictures on the first corner lol.
Ph1 172 is a ghey paper gasket, had a far few of those.
I was led to believe this issue with the high idle was the spring on the throttle body not returning to its 'idle' state, mine does it sometimes and its clean as a whistle..
permanant, its a JB3 that was bought from renault brand new not so long ago, with the newer 'bolt in' diff....shouldnt have any problems with it I hope!
JB3 048, 1.8 box :)
Its not too bad, box changed and back on the road already :)
Welds snapped off and circlip gone...
Diff has moved too, anyhow back in with the new box :)
All yesterday afternoon
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Hes just a UK supplier (http://www.efi-parts.co.uk - http://www.adaptronic.co.uk), maps alot of cars for people on the forums (ClioTT was one on here), hes based over on RTOC mainly...really helpful guy and knows ALOT of stuff...his 'project'
Spec....a...
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Im 99% going to run it on Adaptronic, as I have an 'expert' down the road from me by the name of 'Scoff', heard of the name? He can supply and support it, handy having him only just down the road too (10/15 mile).
Il get a bare loom with the ECU, wire it...
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
IT/Computers/Networks, lol.
This time last year I still had my 1.2 Mk2...
Ive learnt what I know since September 2008 really, when i got the Mk1. Through forums, research and hands on 'going in at the deep end' :)
Yep, I was nearly at the point of sending it back but I had it lying round for so long I couldnt be bothered. Luckily I had some spare lengths they sent me so profiled my own parts that were originally crap and it all went well...
Good luck with fitting it, will look forward to the pics :)
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
lol!
Hopefully wont need to do any more 'major' work for a while now again.
ECU next, cams back in, mapped and a general service before Marham again at the start of october. That will probably be the next outing, was going to do one in September but prices...
Nice work!
If the cage is anything like mine was from customcages be prepared to have quite a bit of playing around with some of the profiles they do on the pipes :dapprove: I had to modify the footplates quite a bit too before welding in
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Right then.
For me its quicker to remove the engine to swap the gearbox, really cant be bothered with dropping the subframe and getting it through the small space available.
Radiator/Fan removed, coolant drained, gearbox drained, driveshafts removed...
I said we had drove down last night, camped (I had the tent etc in my car) and were there for the bike racing that was on today...lol!
The full video of where the box went (probably fastest few laps of the day) is here:

Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Bit of a writeup about Mallory...
Decided to take a pair of Kumho cut slicks (205/50/15) to try if I got the chance, ended up putting them on after two outings just because I wanted to try them... the 'Session 3' video below was just after fitting them...
Yeah, was on 170k mind lol
a foot or two, lol
ha :approve:
It was welded up dude, not had the shaft out yet so dont know, new box has a bolt in diff anyway so shouldnt have any probs!
Yup ready and waiting :)
It was the RTOC National Day/Weekend over the past few days, based at Mallory Park. Quite a big turnout, large variation of cars, but still alot of Renault Turbos around :)
...Camp Rig Up
Mine on track...
Until...
