Road trip with the boys to Switzerland. The team consisted of me and the Clio 172 Cup, a Porsche Cayman R and two Caterhams. 5 nights inc staying in Ashford, which is a foreign country to me so I'm including that too!
I left South Wales and headed to a Travel Lodge in Ashford, ready for the 5am...
Final bits and pieces ahead of the Euro trip next week.
Fitted @04-182 's 3d printed cup holder and replaced the cigarette lighter with a dual USB connector and volt meter.
I'm waiting on a fresh set of brake pads and I think I'm ready to go!
When was the Prestatyn show? I was there recently, probably missed it by a day knowing my luck.
Be keen to get a stand there next year if you think it would be a good idea?
No paint that I've done and 2 previous owners are on here with threads that I've linked on the first page. None have mentioned paint only PDR.
There is some fine laquer peel on the rear quarter although it is minor.
Bonnet has a rust patch coming through which I can deal with as its a...
After all the above was done I needed to give it a bit of a shakedown.
So I drove from South to North Wales around the Evo Triangle, horse shoe pass and some of the amazing roads that bless North Wales.
420+ miles to a whole tank of fuel.
Clio was really good. Apart from some rattles...
Bit of an update.
I've got a BIG Euro Road trip coming up in Sept so trying to iron out any creases with the Clio before I go.
The hot start issue hadn't got any better or worse, so I bit the bullet and had a new Bosch Starter fitted.
Serviced the gearbox
Fresh oil and filter
New tyres...
With the movement of the engine and the exhaust, it was just enough to clunk the metal hanger and the metal of the exhaust. Push the exhaust forward and back and you may hear it.
Report back, nothing better than diagnosing a noise on a clio!
How are your exhaust hangers?
I had a clunk that ended up being the centre hanger. The rubber has a metal ring in it and mine wore through the rubber, so the metal ring was touching the metal hanger of the exhaust.

Spotted a silver 182, caged with a KTEC Sunstrip, reg was 6 characters long. Began with a Y I think?
Gave me a flash and I gave a little wave back.
No dickhead.
Maybe it's age (mid 30's) and I'm just slowing down. 😂
What I can say is I still play BF5 and actually enjoy it. Where as Bf6 - if you see me first, I'm dead. And if I see you first you're dead.
It's too arcade feeling for me. But if you enjoy it, carry on.
Played a few hours yesterday and an hour or so this morning.
For me, it's not great. Feels so fast and the TTK is insane. It feels more COD than Battlefield. A toned down 2042.
Run and gun in small sized maps (for battlefield).
Few good things, but overall not what I was hoping for.
Big battlefield fan - excluding 2042.
Question regarding the open Beta, as a console player how can I access that? Can I access that....or is it my fault for being a console player!
I like the KTEC around town or on a blast out. But my god, motorway speeds it's just DRONE.
I guess everyone's tolerance to noise and what they find acceptable is different.
The inner door seal thing cracked a while a go and my OCD couldn't deal with it.
I had tried to glue it but it looked s**t.
Picked up a fresh one from a breaker.
One thing I've noticed recently is how boomy or droney the exhaust is. It's a stealth KTEC resonated exhaust, sounds fine when...
Alright, small update and in an effort to document what I've done.
Spark plugs.
These are the ones I removed and look pretty good and I felt a bit of a mug replacing them, but I did. When removing them, two were quite loose, almost finger tight.
Dropped in a fresh set
Cold start it seems...
Good effort.
You know the drivers weather strip seal at the top of the door you broke. I've done the same and found a replacement.
How does it come off? 😅
Ok, update.
The rear knock that plagued me for so long was down to a faulty reproduction caliper. I sourced a second hand one from here and it fixed my knocking problem, however it came with its own issue. Whilst painting it silver, I noticed the seals were shot.
So I sourced a reconditioned...
Turns over fine, from both hot and cold. It's never not started.
It's just ever so much slower when warm.
I can see the previous owner fitted a new (blue plug) TDC sensor.
Fitted a new one when I did the rad and coolant change.
It was the same (just over 90) before I replaced the thermostat too. It doesn't fluctuate or anything, I'm OK with it. I just wanted to see if it would fix the slightly lazy hot start.
