I reckon you should have just popped an RBC on there before mapping dude! One great regret before selling mine was upping the power to 250bhp and raising the limiter with it.

I know what you mean though, normal tootling around, especially on a cold morning they sound a bit ill. It's the noisiest engine I've had.
