You can get rid of that by right clicking on the taskbar > properties > navigation > start screen (first option)
I don't really use many Windows 8 specific keyboard short cuts... but my main usage is definitely Windows + E!

HK are s**t, I've had two separates fail on me.
There is only one option for computer speakers imo, Acoustic Energy Aego M's... these were recommended to me when I asked a similar question on AVForums and they're just insanely good. They rival my Hi-Fi Jamo 365's tbh.

2) Click on the desktop tile
3) Now is basically Windows 7 :smile:
