I recall being neck and neck with a standard one, in a 172 in a fair few illegal events. Does that seem right? Thought it would have disappeared. The 172 did have a phase 1 airbox though.

That initial poof/pop you said you heard through the inlet sounds timing related to me. Not that you don't have other issues, by the looks of it. Disconnect the lambda, if it runs better, then that's a good start
