An S2000 is one of the only cars that would tempt me out of the Cup when it came to trackday fun, and road ability.
How many do you ever see being properly "driven" LOL
LOL ^^^ sounds about right.
I've only ever driven a V5 Mk4; everything was so numb I really had no idea what was gong on at the front, back, or anywhere in between.
You're right Ian, the world is far longer than a 1/4 mile...how straight is it after that first 1/4 mile then?
Sorry to hear that fella.
I walked my little girl to the park this morning...wasn't a really cold day, and when crossing a road I almost fell flat on my arse.
No ice at all, but the surface was as slippery as ice (almost). We need a good downpour to clear all the crap off the roads...had...
If you've got less than, say, 10-20k on it, I'd stick with mineral oil.
Fully synthetic can bee too slippery...doesn't allow the engine to bed in properly and it'll stay tight.
I'll be the first to admit that I know f*** all about engine technicalities...but Dean's obviously obsessive (verging on OCD LOL) about his car...I'd love to see it run on a dyno along with some 172/182's just to see.
You've had a bit of a rough time on here so far Dean LOL
I think what you say is plausible - my Cup in straight line runs seems to be consistently quicker than others - so I can well believe that Renault engines vary hugely...I just happened to get a good one :)
Couple that with religious...
Same here...
I don't intend to get rid of mine...ever. It'll be retired from the road by the end of this year (will get diesel supermini for my daily rat-run), and will live out the rest of it's life being regularly beasted on track, airfield sprints, breakie runs, and the occasional outing...
340-380 almost every time on the road.
107 miles is the lowest I've got from a full tank on track - almost ran out in the last session...stuttering and cutting out through hard corners LOL
LOL ^^^
Mark M - I timed your 30-90 in 3rd video at around 10.4s - would you agree with that?
Counting in my head this lunch time I think my standard-ish (no back seats, R-sport ECU, ITG panel, 53k miles) 172 Cup pretty much matched that.
Will see if I can get some footage of it to run...
I do 6-8 a year, with whoever's running them at tracks that fit in with my diary.
Insurance? Look here...
As for servicing costs...Rentech 12K minor service is circa £135 IIRC - really can't stress this strongly enough...DO NOT LISTEN TO DEALERS...some of them will tell you it only needs a...
I grin like my 3yr old daughter everytime I go through 5k at full throttle regardless of gear.
And that's after 53k miles...I don't think I'll ever tire of this engine...
Welcome to the site and good luck with your hunting...
As far as who to have look after it...I'd suggest (as would many members on here) using Mike at Rentech. He used to work at a Renault dealership, but has now set-up on his own.
It'll take you 2 hours to drive down and see him, but look...
Mine's falling apart at 53k + 2yrs old.
Leather on both sides, 3 + 9 o'clock is badly worn and lumpy, one rubber insert has all but disintegrated, other insert is starting to crack.
Useless bloody subscriptions department...must be the reason they came up with subscriber only special edition covers...to stop us moaning when everyone's read and binned the mag before we even get to see it
