I've owned both too mate, they both have their good and bad points. You just need to decide what you want, the difference in speed between the two is minimal but the cups do feel and drive better. Having said that, the ff 172's are quick too and I did miss all the toys when I traded my ff 172...

As Luke said, panel filters don't change how the car sounds... You'd need an induction kit for that, which I would recommend a Pipercross cone filter.

Ok, so I've got a 197 and I've swapped the standard air filter for an ITG panel filter. Everyone recommends these and performance-wise many say they are more effective than an induction kit. However, I do miss the growl of an induction kit and fancy treating myself to an ITG Maxogen...
