If you have access to a garage for a day or two, then a quartz/ceramic sealant is the best you can get.
C Quartz UK or the Gyeon range are very good. The latter being a bit more user friendly as it doesn't contain the solvents which flash off as quickly, giving you more working time.
A proper oil filter tool would have got it undone, but yeah they can be a pain.
The 3 claw filter tools are the best if you have the room, followed by long handled filter grips.
Spreader plate will be held in with the eyebolt.
Try and get the eyebolts to be parallel too, like this

No mate, a few inches back will be fine. The angle recommended by Schroth is just recommended, not the be all and end all.
Just keep them inline with the sides of the seat, so not coming round the back of the seat.
