Sounds like you had one that had been treated badly before you. I did nearly 50k in my 182, including 5 track days, never had any probs outside of routine maintenance.
I'd drive them all 1st. Off your list it would be the R32. Driven the VXR at Bedford and on the road, of the current crop it would be bottom of the list. Awful steering, crap power delivery, and a cheap looking interior (compared to Golf/Focus). Not even going to get into the gear-knob.......
