IMO, DS2500's are more than adequate for road/track use. Carbon Lorraine's get mixed reviews, couldn't comment on the ds3000's.

Yes you can see the belt. IIRC, it will need the aux belt done as part of the service. I had mine changed recently, due to a faulty tensioner, approx £175.

I don't see ph1 vee prices holding up as well as ph2's. If I was in the market for a vee, I wouldn't even consider a ph1.

10-15% worse. Ave 27-28mpg from what I've read from owners.

Is yours a mk1 or mk2? The mk1's are meant to be better.

Thats why I'll never get cheap coilovers.

No idea on cost. Have a search in the guide section, try adjusting the switch first, might be fixable that way.
