Another newbie here, learning what I can before finding a suitable 182

I'm one of them. Not just spring and summer either...I go driving around Thaxted/Finchingfield/Steeple Bumpstead early Sunday mornings year round.

Michelin pilot 4 tyres, any good in the wet ?

The Goodyear F1 Supersports are at least on a par for dry/wet grip and potentially better depending on who you talk to (they are comparable to the PS4S whereas the lesser F1 Asymmetric is the direct competitor to the PS4). Wear rate not as good as PS4 though. Michelin have perfected a secret...

    Mk2 RS prices

Tell me about it...my Lotus Evora dropped an unexpected £7k bill on me last year. Although it was cheap as chips otherwise so amortised over several years' ownership it wasn't too bad. Actually my Clio is in need of £££ as some plonker of a previous owner decided to roll the wheel arch which is...

    Mk2 RS prices

We're witnessing the transition from an owner base that sees £4-5k as a lot of money for a car, to those who consider that to be a relative bargain. Lots of people spend £4-5k every year to lease a car, so to drop that much on a Clio really isn't a big deal for many. And you don't need to spend...

Great description of the 1x2 experience. NB 113 Clio 182s were made in Inferno in "FF" spec with all the toys and both cup packs.

I’m in the Finchley Road area so not far. Drop me a PM if you’d like to meet. North Essex is one of my favourite haunts for my Sunday morning drives. AW Motorworks is a good specialist in the Great Dunmow/ Thaxted area.

Welcome! Another mature Londoner here who uses cars to escape. Where are you based? You’re welcome to come and have a nose around mine, although it’s quite heavily modified.

    My Impreza mistake

Just an opinion and you can of course cheerfully ignore but the essence of the Subaru character is honest, workmanlike and no-nonsense and doesn’t need adornments.

    My Impreza mistake

Mudflaps on Imprezas aren't just for show. Take them off and you'll get used to cleaning the lower carriage regularly, particularly if running spacers.

    When does a clio 182 2004 (54) plate become a classic car ??

Mine’s on a “modern classic” policy with Classicline. Must not be primary car, limited miles. Cheaper than mainstream insurers.

    My Impreza mistake

Chevron Motorsport do one that is very highly rated and costs £1,200 plus vat. To be fair it's not that much to pay for the benefits of a top mount plus the ability to run big power.

To clarify, that's on the standard STi top mount. Can go higher with aftermarket items.

    Clio 182 non-cup upgrade dilemna

If haven’t already, go for camber/caster adjustable solid top mounts first. Makes a huge difference and much cheaper than the two options you’re considering.

where to get key cut and coded?

Timpson charge £120 to supply and cut a 172/182 key. You can buy key blanks for £10 on eBay and I've found independent shops who will cut and code for £50.

Cancelling insurance.. How bad is it?

I think we're saying the same thing but coming from different angles. What I'm trying to say is that even if you can afford to spend on something, doesn't mean you should if a cheaper and equally viable option exists. Without wishing to sound boastful I could (and have) owned far more costly...

Not sure about Android but Scenic and InRoute (both iOS only) are two apps that import GPX files. Various programs such as Garmin BaseCamp, TomTom MyRouteApp, TYRE, ITNConverter allow you to plan routes and export them to GPX files.

    Google maps

ITNConverter exports to Google Maps but it's a bit clunky to use in Maps, as you have to manually mark each waypoint visited. I personally continue to use a standalone GPS device specifically as I like to pre-programme routes. All modern TomTom and Garmin devices have this capability but I...

    Values of Nice Examples increasing

For some it's a matter of principle. VED is basically a sin tax like booze and cig duty. It's not like the money actually goes on improving the roads. And it's the same amount whether you drive 1,000 miles or 100,000 miles. If you have multiple cars that each only get light use, the costs...

BC DS Coilovers and Powerflex Bishes

DS series have better-quality valving. For the road I run BC DS fronts at 7kg with standard Cup shocks and H&R springs and ARB at the rear. Works really well. I’ve yet to try the BC rears but if they are track biased as I believe they are with 8 kg poundage, they will be too stiff for the...

    Life After Clio (182)

If you've dreamed of it, do it. An R35 is about as different from a Clio as you can get. Prices have dropped hugely since a year ago. I've come close to one but the bulk of the thing and the running costs are what put me off.

Brake fade with decent brake setup?

Indeed but RC6 is particularly bad for this IME. I've run other sintered compounds such as Carbotech and RC6 runs hotter than any them and hotter than other CL compounds such as RC5+. I would recommend Carbotech XP10 over RC6 - very similar performance and pedal feel, but much better heat...

Brake fade with decent brake setup?

RC6 are great pads but run extremely hot, hotter than most pads, meaning ducts are essential and even then there's a risk of boiling the fluid. I've had good success so far with standard brakes, DS1.11 front and DS2500 rears, good fluid and removing the front arch liners.
