I got my MBP around a year ago and also had doubts, these were automatically cleared when I started using it.
Everything is fast, no matter what you're doing. Takes around 15-20 seconds to boot up and you're away.
Battery life of 7 hours, depending on what you're doing. I normally see 5-7.
And...
Wheels, side badges and diamond look awesome.
If it was my car I would have left the fog surrounds, mirrors and rear badge...but it's not ;)

To be honest I love it the way it is. Subtle yet effective.
I really like the wheels aswell, like a cross between a Turini and a 2118!
A bit like mini V6 wheels!
Some of the guys points are a bit off.

My MBP takes around 15 seconds to boot, which wouild lead me...
Answers for you:
1. There are other music programs yes, but iTunes is by far the best/easiest.
2. Nikon will work fine yes :) memory card slot makes it all easier.
3. MSN is available for mac yes!
4. Yes DVD's will play fine.
5. VLC is also available for mac!

To be honest with you, if it is as you say your first time with a mac, the included software will keep you occupied for a good while!
I remember when I got my MBP, couldn't stop playing with it!
Yeah this reminded me of that. And his paintwork looked to be a lot worse than yours. It was pink with zero shine.
I'm pretty sure if you attack it with a PC you could bring some of your colour back!

Yeh mate that's what I love about it. It looks so different all the time!
In the sun it's really bright and pearlescent and in the shade it goes really dark and deep!
