I run something similar but the rod is bolted to one of the eyes on the block to tension the belt. It runs the waterpump backwards but I've never had an issue It's hard to photograph🤣

Check the length of your wheel bolts. I once fitted spacers and the bolts were 5mm longer than they needed to be It popped the bearing out slightly and ground a nice chamfer on the hub!
