Yeah wind deflectors instantly ruin anything. I don't mind these shape Polos, though think I would just buy a Golf if I wanted a VW or, if I wanted a car that size, a Fiesta ST would probably poop on one of these from a great height.
It does sound similar to the engine mount vibration. How stiff is the guard? If you were getting contact between it and the engine/gearbox, I wondered if you might hear it more but, if it's pretty stiff, you may not I suppose.
Yeah I would 100% use threaded bosses if it was on a rally car...
Rivnuts are a bit of an odd choice for this application in my view. Fine for your use, but I think I would want something a bit more substantial on a rally car, as the sump guard is going to be on and off a lot, and it is so easy to damage them.
