Use a torch or light that spreads further. Using a lightsource the width of a biro is only going to end in lines ;)
also if you're very clever you can avoid direct reflections.
Giant softboxes are a good idea but not always practical.
TBH that's so over-exposed it looks like daylight.
Either be clever and show the lines...
or make a dark background with a lit up painted car as the subject...

If you're happy with the hex-logic ones - get something a little chunkier. The white one is a very low-cut (if anything?) for cleaners/LSP etc.
Get a med/high cut and a polish or buy a few things from 3M's range (on CYC/I4D) as it's all colour coded/idiot proof .. even I managed it :o
