You don't need to take anything off to change a bulb. :S Changing ballasts though.. you will need to get the light out unless you've go-go-gadget arms which from previous statement, I assume you do not ;)

ICV (idle control valve) perhaps ? Swap the lambdas front to rear as an 'easy' fix .. if that doesn't do it .. clean/replace the ICV. Failing that ... er...................... Check the usual things .. ignition = coilpack / HTs / plugs.

Good effort. Seriously. My suggestion is to just leave it be ;) What engine is it ? Does the car get warmed up properly regularly ? By that I mean driven for more than 10 miles at a time. Properly warm and then driven properly ;) 1.2s get gunked up easily... This might be a 2.0...
