Back up for this thread - OH has just tried to 'see what all the fuss is about' and has decided that women can't play Crysis. It's "too spooky" and "too complicated doing all this with the mouse and moving with the keyboard and picking stuff up".
Didn't even get past Contact. Got shot whilst...
Yep, that's the one.
And case fan, again, not critical. I'd be surprised if it was the PSU, if it was powering on in the first place, but it's not impossible.
8800GT beeps when it's upset, the Asus board most likely won't shut down if the fan isn't spinning because a lot of them are enthusiast boards and designed either for HTPCs which can run fanless or for gaming and potentially watercooling, so I'd suggest maybe PSU. However, if it powers up at...
Westmere is replacing it in a little over 6 months, so it's outgoing.
And you can read what you like - Intel's book for it is 130w, and the 7455 is 65w. Which is less than the AMD one!
You're on to a loser here - although I admire you for actually believing all the marketing s**t you send...
Just heading out the door, but a quick run on HDTune now the system's settled and caches are on.
Average transfer rate of 140MB/sec, max transfer rate of 200MB/sec. Access time of 6ms.
Very pleased with that, and looking forward to being toppled!
But the 3G is tied to the SIM.
And you've saved... £14. Congratulations. Thank god you did that, because I'd have cost myself nearly three times that if I'd spent an hour tossing about over something that trivial!
Stop the Windows Update services in Services (Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services) and then delete C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download.
If that doesn't work, then delete the lot.
Except, no matter how 'good' their support is, everybody I know who has had a Sony has had it 'repaired'. Now, I don't know about you, but I sense very double standards. A few people have to get their Dell laptops fixed, and they're all s**t. Everybody has to get their Sony laptops s**t, but...
Good job really, cos it's got a cat's chance in a dog pound of winning.
I just don't 'get' these 'laptops'. If I put that on my lap for any length of time, I'd have a flat spot.
Aye, it's not too shabby for a 2-year-old card full of water. Quite pleased with the old girl.
The drives on the other hand, they should be capable of saturating the bus. 15kRPM 146GB SAS drives aren't supposed to be that slow.
I'll have to come back to you on the results of the boot disk performance. It's not a happy chappy so I'll leave it to complete it's verify so it can re-enable the caches.
Coming up tomorrow - an unfair performance test based on a HP MSA2324. And a blade with 2 X5460s (or X5470s, I can never...
As per Darren's first request for the benches.
As per Roy's bench.
Like f'uck an 8800GT is able to run at max settings at that res and be 'playable' by any reasonable means.
HDTune. Win.
