Re: The life of... SharkyUK's Trophy [& Fred's V6]
Sounds like mine on idle with itbs and piper cams. Graph looks very similar too (like most itb'd and cammed Clios!) So I know how well it will go now :) Bet it was worth the wait!
Later 197 box or 200 box with the longer 5th and 6th with a R26 4.07 final drive would be ok (if that's possible). Not much difference in terms of top gear compared with the JC5-129.
Crashy isn't just the spring rate. It's also down to the dampers. It would probably be low enough with some 250lb 6" springs. I've got a pair in the garage not far off that, I'll have to check what they are.
Coil springs in Sheffield can make you some.
The length also depends on spring rate, whether the back is stripped out, whether you carry any load in the boot or passengers etc.
So, what do you use the car for, what do you have in the back, how stiff do you want it, what spring rates do you...
Good stuff :)
Spax are notsocheap rubbish, the difference in technology and quality is massive yet the price difference isn't!
I still need to do mine too, it'll have to wait until after my holiday though. Just over 6 weeks until the RS day at Oulton.
You'll have the RS192 fitted then.
You can run two tailpipes off one central silencer at the back and you won't need a centre silencer. The standard cat is a sports cat but the olive joint is a restriction so you can do the sleeve mod to be rid of that.
Mintex 1144 aren't all that. I get my ds2500 fading on the road (but not so much on track as you carry more speed.)
Better pads are the answer. You could try Yellowstuff as a budget offering, £65 for a set of them. Anything else costs 2-4x that.
As chip said they only gain about 8bhp. Iirc from Mike's graph they lost a little torque and the bhp gains were only at the very top end.
If you're going to go to the hassle of doing a cam swap then fit the best you can for the budget. I'd go for 421 over the 438, they're £600 new and very...
