well as said sportlines are just springs where coilovers are springs and dampers, but the standard dampers in my opinion are perfect for fast road, a set of slightly stiffer and lower springs like the eibachs match them perfectly as they give you a little less roll and a little bit more...
the only way id think about a replica is if it was built around a 1.5 DCi engine so you would have all the looks with the cheap running costs.
a 1.4 isnt really going to be any better on petrol than a 172 is! where a dci is a cool money saving idea! plus you can pick them up mega cheap and...
unless your going all out and buying H&R/Bilstein/AST or something along those lines i wouldnt bother, i had FK's before and my 172 on eibach springs handles better!
my 1.2 16v had a flexi joint on it as standard and i went thru 2 of them in a year but thats probably because it was lowered and catching the ground lol

i got mine 2nd hand on an exchange cant remember what i paid! deffo get teh gaskets, guy on here sells them think their around £25/£30 but again cant remember, search them think their called PTFF gaskets or something?!
i had my 182 manifold before though it was about even with that fitted with exhaust and decat. only difference since is matched inlets :)
forgot to say mine are AngelWorks ones with They thermal gasket things lol
i hadnt driven my car for 6 months before i fitted mine so its kinda hard to do a before and after of them but it now pulls on my mates ek9 civic type R when it used to be about even.
i was under the impression that the 172 cup had slightly stiffer dampers on it, i changed all of mine for brand new genuine cup dampers (using the reg plate for a cup) when mine were feeling a bit worn. but i was sure they were different (cost similar) which is why i went for them over the...
