To give you an idea mate, I used Scratch X by hand on a black Clio at the weekend, took me between 6 and 7 hours. A lot of effort is needed and my left arm is still sore now from doing it on Saturday! And I will still need to give some parts another application!
It would be great to have the best of both worlds (if you had the cash). I would still love to pick up a mint 205 gti or Willy one day to use for the weekends and drive a modern safe car such as a 182/197/Golf during the week.
I saw a Petrol Blue 182 at Reg Vardy Livingston (I'm sure it was the one in the pics) and in the sun it is a stunning colour imo. I'd have one as it is so rare.

I still don't get these Eibach springs of ours Jonny, your front looks higher than mine but your rear is lower!!!
I know what you are saying but surely buying an imported Evo 6/7 for 12k ish is cheaper (and possibly more reliable!) than buying a 172/182 and spending a few grand on engine mods.
although as you say in your post, you won't get warranty if you go down this route!
