Its a mixture of both, most buy because they like the look and drive of the car and the fact that its the fastest you can go for the price.

But id still love to get a 2.0 and mod that, as 200 BHP from a GTT wont be a match for 200 BHP from an F7R !!
Means it can be run in different combinations, 8,4 and 2 ohms if you connect them in parallel itll run @ 2 ohms which means more power (if your amp can handle it)
Reliability is down to you, uprate your headgasket first of all, dont run silly boost on standard internals and wait till the temp is up before ragging it and itll be as reliable as any other car.

The smaller one is the reserve which is 5 litres IIRC, when the light comes on it means the reserve fuel is being used, so youd in effext lose your "warning light" but gain a "im out of petrol light". All youd need would be a connecting fuel pipe to bypass the spare tank.

If you get the 172 i can almost certainly say that youll crash it, i had a 1.2 for my first car and battered that about a bit.
Get a smaller engined car for a bit of experience, THEN get the 172 after a couple of years
