Is the engine overly hot to the touch though? Does the temp needle shoot up and stay up?

Why risk it? For your budget a 172 with the belts done and some nice extras would be my bet. At 2.5k a 182's going to be poor IMO.

Small update, I got the car through the MOT thankfully! (£350 later) But it is sorted! What a difference having a ramp makes to doing work on these! Got use of a buzz gun so it literally took an hour to do all four corners! Front anchors on; Rear's; I also washed it for the first time...

Clio 172 Cup. Best - Everything, it does everything well. Worst - Nothing, at the minute I'm experiencing the 10% of Renault Sport ownership where everything works. Awesome.
