If you want to fill the arches the 16" will do a good job if you lower the car. go with 40mm springs as there only around £80 if your not willing to with coilovers witch are around £300+

Well your impression of fast car is like a million miles away from mine....fastest thing ive been ins a Porsche Turbo and fastest car ive drivins a Sport , either way a 16v 1.6 will be much better than my current 8v 1.2
