Me again lol, I have a 2001 Ph1 aswell mate. Love it dearly
Same again mate, belts done are a must or that would need to come down atleast £500
I'm a biy sceptical about buying without religious service history and so on but it does sat its got stamps and stuff?
It does sound like your car could be misfiring mate.
Possibly a faulty coil pack or faulty High Tension lead going into each of the 4 coils?
Are there any lights illuminated on the dash mate?
Remember one thing, hes selling. Your buying so techinically the balls in your court.
The swinger is going to be if the belts havent been done, this is an absolute must if it hasnt already been done. If they have, test the water and remind him you would be coming from Edinburgh to potentially...
Edinburgh to west midlands? 296 miles, piece of piss in a Renault Sport mate.
If it was a toss up between paying less and getting one close by or paying a fraction more and getting a minted id be buying a train ticket to the west midlands.
The fun's in driving it back up :D
I wouldnt say its overly cheap mate keeping in mind the belts will have to have been done, if its got religious service history and is in very good condition id say its worth 2800 at most tbh
Heres one i found just quickly >

Couldnt finish wathcing that video, sheer b****cks tbh.
"American cars cant corner?"
Correct asshole, in fact the reason might be that the car weighs 2 tonnes along with your fat ass taking the total to about 4 tonnes
Modified Versus Modifed, the boundaries are limitless both on American...
Not all that quick these, 144 bhp per ton.
Its the 2001 Ibiza Cupra's you have to watch, these are quicker and are closer in performance to a 1*2 @ 163 bhp per ton
Weight has killed the newer one tbh
Super Dooper Rocket Fuel
You have to whisper sweet nothings into the Petrol Garage atendee's ear and he will show you the way to this mysterious pump.
That or V power
The most ive had from my Phase 1 was 367 miles to a full tank of V-power.
Glasgow to Newcastle and back with driving around newcastle aswell.
According to the trip it was ranging between 43-46mpg which is about right if you consider its an 11gallon/50l tank
To go off topic a little the only hot-hatches I could say are a safe depreciation proof purchase are ---
Escort Cosworth
Saphire Cosworth
Sierra Cosworth
Focus RS
Etc and so on
I know its not expensive as its mandatory anyway so people in the market for one will desire it be done when there in the market late this year/early next year
But then you have to ask yourself will people want a 197 with 25 to 30k on the clock or a relativley low mile trophy with the belt...
I don't think the Trophys will stay above 7k forever.
Miles will bring them down I think, plus cambelts will be due next year on all trophys.
This said, there are a few 197's are sub 9k :o
