I personally preferred tracking my 172 than I did my M3!
The M3 was was just overtake overtake overtake all day. The Clio is all about trying to keep as much speed as possible!
Saner, do you think the cup vs FF bhp is to do with the aircon? Thats my personal take on it.

Inlets. The Standard inlet manifold is about 1mm smaller than the gasket and as rough as a badgers ass. About £150 sees it machined out properly and some healthy gains can be had!

Brakes are simple disc and pad combo (Brembo/pagid blue/Performance friction/Carbon lorraines etc) Braided lines and decent fluid. (The cars weigh fcuk all so don't need massive brakes)

If you want to mod the clio 'properly' expect to pay circa £4,000 on either a Turbo/ITB's or a Supercharger.
The F4r engines don't respond to tuning. At all. £ per bhp is rediculously bad. Induction kit/decat/cams/exhaust/remapping may see you with 15hp. for about £1200!! lol.

Never again. Spen more time keeping the engine clean than I did driving it!! A complete b**ch to look after it.
