Not really, I bought my current one from a random Renault breakers, they told me they were driving around in the car it came from for a month before they stripped it. I just had to take them at their word, luckily 2 years later it's still going strong, it is a lottery though.

Second hand gearbox £100-£200, a decent mechanics time no more then £300, when my gearbox shredded itself at 70 mph, £500 got me a replacement box fitted by a respected garage who is a member on here. That's if it's actually the gearbox, they normally don't slot into every gear perfectly if...

If you do sell it on you'll make a tidy profit you can use or put towards a normally priced 200 with Reacro's and whatnot, then at least you won't always be waiting for bailiffs to show up and repossess it.
