If I was in that situataion, i'd pay the money and just avoid the place from now on.
No point in getting him to put it back, as you will be out of pocket after getting it repaired again.

So it needs a good £500 spending on it as well as being a Cat D??? That car is worth no more than £3500.
It should have Xenons as standard (Artic blue was a non cup colour) and the Aux belt needed doing at 36k.
