Dealers charge around £350 for a non A/C cup. I'd offer him £4250 and get him to MOT and Cambelt it, that way if it fails the MOT on anything, he will have to get it done. And Being a main Dealer, they will be strict as arseholes on the MOT.

Get some meguirs metal polish. I used it on my old one and it came up a treat.

I personally wouldn't bother persuing it. It will cost you more in time and effort than it would to pay your mate so fix the problems. Just put it down to experience. I think you're quite lucky to have had the dealer replace the cambelt and the battery tbh.
