Gentoo appears to offer a better UI from what I've read on AVF but it's also harder to install. Maybe YDL will be my best option for tonight.
P.S. I've just signed up for another year here despite no longer having my Clio, the Tech section is still a handy place to post in. 5 posts per 24 hours...
No it shouldn't do because Sony have the option in the OS to install a secondary system onto the HDD. The warranty will be OK and I'll be able to get extra functionality from my PS3 that will help me avoid having to buy a media server for the TV.
It'll not break from simply installing a second OS, the system supports installing Linux so fingers crossed all should be ok. If all goes wrong then a HDD format will fix it.
I'm planning on installing one of the above Linux OS onto my PS3 so that I can use Firefox and VLC on my TV. Of the two which is the best version to use?
Also can Linux network ok with my iMac for sharing files?
Thanks
I've voiced support for the PS3 here since I bought one last Friday. Gaming is excellent on it, F1 is stunning and incredibly fast and smooth. The demos I have played of Motorstorm and RFOM were also very good with not a hint of framerate problems showing that the PS3 really does have impressive...
Blu-Ray already enjoyed a larger market share, 165,000 new owners last weekend of BD players in the UK cannont be a bad thing for future sales.
F1 is excellent, I'm considering buying Motorstorm this weekend.
New format becomes fastest-selling home console ever over its debut weekend.
ChartTrack has confirmed that 165,000 PS3 units were sold during the console's launch weekend.
The figure is three quarters of the total 220,000 UK launch stock for day one, and makes PS3 second only to PSP in the...
You do not need to have different online accounts but it does give access to other regional servers for demos etc. You can do the same thing on the 360 to access the US demos and content.
I'm in agreement with Dave, F1 is excellent and one of the best racing games I've played on any console recently. The motion controls are fun but I opted back to the traditional method.
It's a brilliant console and most of the negative comments I've read are always very obviously from 360...
The Blu-Ray movies can have region locking applied to them buy Sony have said that the games will remain region free. The only form of region locking a game may suffer from is which servers you can access for online play, the games will run on PS3's from other regions.
PS2 games are region...
Definately quieter than the 360 but not silent.
I've activated two more accounts, one for the US and one for Hong Kong. Lots more content and demos are now available for download from those regions Really do like this console.
If it was one or the other then the obvious choice for gaming is the 360 because it has alot more games available for it and over the next 10 months I do not anticipate many PS3 exclusive titles will become available.
I found the Lotus was not at all like it should be, the cars I've driven have stuck to the road and easily handle tight corners, in GT HD the car reacts like it's hit an oil patch everytime I corner it.
The drift challenge is fun and I like the ITR.
I'm impressed with the PS3 and glad I bought...
F1 is not jerky at all when I'm playing it here so I can't say I really agree with you. Fantastic game and very fast moving graphics.
Motorstorm is also good fun from what I.ve played of the demo.
GT:HD is crap though, the cars all handle badly and not at all like the real life versions.
The...
Spec the 360 to as close as currently possible to the PS3 and it would cost £489.96. Prices from game.co.uk
360 also comes with a 20gb HDD rather than a 60gb found in the PS3. No annual subscription for the PS3.
360 Premium - £279.99
HD-DVD Addon - £134.99
WiFi Adapter - £59.99

Why queue for one for 2 days when youi can simply walk instore and pre-order one still for tomorrow. Most stores local to me are still able to accept orders.
I'm buying on release day, I'm sure the initial price cut will not be worth delaying my purchase for. The PS3 will still play PS2 games but I can't say I'll be planning on using it for that. My 360 plays original Xbox games but they look crap in comparison so I never bother.
£425 is not a bad...
Waste of time buying to sell on as it's more than likely that people will be able to walk in to any game shop and buy one without much trouble. Lots of stock available for the UK.
I think the memory used in the iMac is the same as in a MacBook?

There are 220,000 units available in the UK on launch day which is significantly more than other console launches so I do not think people will struggle to buy one, especially as Sony are missing out on the usual Christmas market.
