I don't know. Bolt the spacer on, then offer up the wheel onto spacer. Put a pencil through the wheel bolt holes,then you can see how long you stud will need to be. Di it level with the outside of the wheel as you don't want them sticking out too far.

Don't do that. Always bolt the spacer to the hub first then put the studs in the spacer. That's the way the spacer is designed.

If the engine is as high as poss, then it will wriggle out.

Re: Serious knocking noise whilst running in gear, car appears to be limited to 3000 We cannot guess on the net, it could even be the crank shims have come out and the noise is the flywheel rubbing on the block! This will only make a noise when the clutch is engaged.
