Exactly. In my series 2, I've been offered anything from about half what I think it's worth to pretty much double what I think it's worth and mainly from people who see me stopped at traffic lights! It makes me laugh sometimes!
Hi Richard, I had the same problem with my 172 cup. Have you checked the spark plug gap? 2 of mine were out by a fair margin so I decided to replace all 4 with new ones and got a new set of HT leads for good measure. It cured the problem straight away and it now pulls like a train - as it...
Yeah, I've seen series 2 Escort RS Turbo's from there for between 8 and 10 grand! I know they're rising in value but that takes the pish. Mind, I saw a black one ( S2 RST) on a private ebay listing a few months back. Very low mileage I'll grant you (about 20,000). It was for sale at £22,000! I...
I managed to get hold of a 172 cup with a new clutch and timing belt, completely standard with the speedline turini's, 80,000 miles and 10 months MOT. It needs a new bonnet and exhaust but I paid £1350 for it.
I think this thread may solve my alarm issue. I bought my 172 cup knowing that it had a very slight front end knock. I have the very same issue with my alarm and couldn't find the bonnet sensor. Obviously without one of these the alarm will keep going off. Can I just get a new bonnet sensor and...
I very nearly owned one a couple of years back, I was the second highest bidder on ebay, told the seller that if he gets any trouble off the buyer I would buy it. He said that the buyer was in France so I could have it at my top bid which was £7,100 or £7,400 delivered. I thought long and hard...
As above, I would drive that far to see it. The thing with cat D is, as long as you're aware of it and you realise that you won't get full price when you sell it on and the new owner is aware, everyone's happy. It would have had the smallest of knocks or be stolen and recovered.
Cat D is the...
A bit of information that might help someone with the same problem as me - I started with the cheapest parts and a new set of plugs and leads has solved this problem 100%. Pulls like a train again with not a single splutter. Yay!
Well I say cheap - the spark plugs are a bit pricier than I'm...
Crikey, this topic snowballed overnight!
To summarise then, a couple of people have been unlucky, a few got away with stuff and if you're nice to the police, they're generally nice to you. Interesting.........
Thanks for the replies everyone, it was a genuinely interesting read!
Yes, sound as a pound is the actual phrase I used when describing the officer to my work colleagues! As you so rightly stated, if you're respectful (which I was) they seem to treat you fairly.
This is what happened -
I was running a bit late for work so I was driving a bit enthusiastically and a white van man pulled out in front of me through the bottom of town in a two lane road. I thought I would just nip past him as he pulled to the left and I stayed in the right lane. As I put my...
I would say it was, I recently fitted one to my wife's 1.6 RSi. The slam panel comes out with a few bolts and makes it very easy. I managed to do it without interfering with the air-con. If you're methodical about it and take a few pics to remind you of how it goes back together you should be fine.
My 172 cup is hesitant high up the rev range. Feels down on power. Especially in 2nd gear. You can feel a slight cough when you floor it. Plugs? leads? s**t petrol?
Discuss ;)
p.s first person to say dephaser pulley gets a serious frowning.
To be honest, the 172 cup is my daily driver - although I sometimes take the long way to work but it's the RS Turbo that gets taken for a drive for no reason other than driving. You just can't beat the kick of a turbo for a thrill.........
In my experience, the forced induction is noticeably better when the air is cooler, the N/A is hardly any different.
Both the Clios seem to run better with a full tank of fuel though and the Escort is no different. It's probably the placebo effect but I swear it just runs smoother. Strange!
Went to fit some LED reverse light cluster bulbs, found that I'd ordered the wrong fitment, then thought I'd take apart the dodgy hazard switch and found that the previous owner had mangled the wiring and tried to bodge it with random wires and tape. Not sure how I'm going to fix this one :dapprove:
