Be sure it's definately the right spring though. for 172's I hear there were different set-ups over the life of the model, a blob of paint on the spring dictated which ones you'd need for replacements.

yeah, just get it running well and I'd say any more changes would be a waste.
Maybe change your headlights if they're as bad as you suggest ,but there's been a load of threads about how peeps have poliched theirs up really well.
