All true.
I guess, with my demand for revs I should prefer some huuuuuge turbo that doesn't even begin to come into play until about 6k...........but, then, if you're gonna do that, why not have a"proper" blower on there too to help things along until it gets there?
Well, I just prefer superchargers, same as you prefer a fan in the exhaust.
This is diverting far off the point though, if it's a V8 that redlines at 9k, I dont mind how it does it.
It's just when we're being told that displacement, cylinders and revs are the anti-christ, that grinds my gears
I know I'm nit-picking. Hell, this is CS, where having any knowledge on the subject is completely optional.
which is more chavvy though, a supercharger whine, or one of those dump valves that sounds like HGV brakes? (In the style of Harry Hill) There's only one way to find out...........
That's right.
:)
Cyclic compressors give you better throttle response and noise.
Unless "frrrrrrrrrt. psst!" is considered a good noise to have, outside of Max Power circles?
Yeah, but turbos are still cheating :)
Superchargers, that's different, mind.
Anyway, having loads of cylinders, and the revs, AND some compression, that's alright.
it's these 0.1 litre turbos that we'll be told are "sporting" in a couple of years time which are the problem
surprised this thread hasn't been hijacked already by some megane / twingo owner who thinks the wastegate is best noise ever created.
Love those ferrari engines, and the TVR.
Maybe we're missing a couple of tricks though:-...
People
I'm reading more and more that we'll all soon be driving 1-litre, wind-assisted shopping trolleys with a probable red-line of about 4k.
As someone once said "there's no replacement for displacement". Maybe that's not quite strictly true, providing you've got enough cylinders and revs...
damn straight, more bigger bangs but with more revs than your heavy-oil drinkers.
If the modern engine has to be a 0-litre turbo that emits only apple blossom and makes the sound of a silenced sewing machine, then you're welcome to it. I'll take the V12 thanks.
