I was looking at getting an ST170 3 and a half years ago but went for the 172 in the end. If I was to make the choice now then unless I really needed the extra room it would still be the 172 every time!! Don't get how you think a ph2 172 looks dated compared to a 182 mind:S.

Doesn't matter, if you saw an extreme in 30 years time you would still deem it a classic. Albeit not a very nice/great one. Take the mk2 Ford Cortina for example. looked s**t, went s**t and had no character. Same with something like the Austin Allegro yet they're still classed as classics now...

Given enough time all the 1*2's will become classics. Also why does everyone seem to assume that a car has to be a performance car to become a classic?

Depends how you look at it really. A lot of people would class any old Cortina or Anglia as a classic yet they were nothing special at the time...

Don't remember the 205, Golf GTI's etc having plaques on them. Classics? yes they are and I bet they made as many if not more.... The 1*2's will end up the same in terms of "classic" come 20 years down the line.

Nice one, didn't take long to get bored of the GTI then! If you end up needing to take it in I can recommend a good garage over my way. Always cheap and seems to knows his s**t...

I bet a powered one would be fine. I've heard of people welding full tanks before! At the same time if insurance are taking it and end up writing it off then tell them it had a full tank and have the amount added to the payout. That's what I did once.

Get some one to drive behind you to smell it to see if its anything bad.

Sportlines improve the handling noticeably. I'm sure Pro's also do but I haven't used them. Maybe you should give them a try sometime;).

As said, what if he's accounted for all that? People do and then have spare cash lying round to spend on other things be it home or car etc. If he can't really afford it then fair enough your right but you don't know that....
