I had what sounds like the same problem with a Toshiba USB drive and it turned out to be its power supply (very strange I thought:eek: ). Have you tried it on another PC or changed the USB cable? If its the drive then you might be best taking the disk out and putting it straight in a PC and...

You can get a stainless steel powerflow stealth for around £250 fitted and there's deffo no power loss (a gain if anything) Mine isn't much louder, just a better sound. Just make sure you specifically ask for the quietest one they do.
