With all due respect, I wouldn't compare the 5GT against the 197 let alone the Megane. As @Daniel pointed out, you're better off getting him one of the 'smaller' hatches such as the 172 or the 182. The 197 & 200 are a lot more 'grown up'/boring and haven't got the same smile from ear to ear go...

I don't think there are any within 20 miles to be fair to you mate. Fred from BTM would probably have been the closest but he's shut down now and he was Birmingham IIRC. I've used @MicKPM a fair few times, couldn't help you more if he tried but he's located near Nottingham.

Yep, it could get a lot worse quite quickly. Clutch cable could snap and you wouldn't be moving. I don't think it's a too expensive job to be honest.

I'd say clutch, yep. @fairm010 recently had the same issue mate and a new clutch sorted him out.

Probably easier just to blank them mate and then MOT through someone else, for the sake of £35. Will save you a whole lot of headaches.

Only really use Netflix tbh. My missus streams make up tutorials to the TV but that's about it. Occasionally if it's a long YouTube video I'll stream to TV.

If by character you mean that it keeps you on your toes by developing a new problem daily then yes, I agree. Went out for a meal with the missus earlier, pulled in to my drive and todays issue popped up - n/s headlight bulb gone. Looks like the bumpers coming off tomorrow ;) !

I will be the first to admit - the 197 isn't the best daily. Not even in the top 100. There is still something about it though that is stopping me from selling it/buying an alternative daily. What this is though, I don't know.
