I drive a 172 Cup as a daily. Came from a V70 D5, which couldn't have been more different. Done about 25k in the year I've owned it. It is flawed in so many ways as a daily, and I know I should buy something big, soft and oil-burning. However, whilst it is far from ideal 90% of the time, the...
So hit and miss buying competition car second hand. My Escort rally car has proven a right nightmare.
Stick a thread up, would be great to see some more pictures, especially of the Cup-specific parts.
Very nice Mark, looks great in the bay. Though this time may have been better spent replying to my pm lol. Would like to see this in the metal some time.
When are you planning the 'ring trip for? I went for the first time this year and am very tempted to go again as some friends are going over...
Thanks @Russ_16v, I'm actually after Vibratechnics engine mounts, but I can't see those on your website?
Thinking about it, I might take a set of black steering rack bushes too!
Cheers bud.
Nah, she still has her dents. Been moving and changing jobs and it's just dropped down the list. Had a couple of quotes now so hopefully get it sorted soon!
As I've already posted a million times on this thread in the last 24 hours, it can't hurt to do a little more. Looking through my photobucket for the pictures above and I found a few other random ones...
Bit of a 90s flavour there wasn't there. Standing...
Yeah, sitting in waiting. It's not been apart for a few years but has apparently only done a handful of miles since being rebuilt. As I said in your thread, it uses standard size valves, but ported head, Piper cams (unknown spec), solid lifters, Omega pistons, H-section rods and heat treated...
And a few of my previous Ford buckets from over the years. As you can tell, I like some of the slightly less popular stuff...
Orion 1600E. Yes, those door cappings are REAL wood:
RS Stylee Orion:
Orion Equipe:
2.0 Zetec-powered Escort Mexico:
RS2000:
ST220:
I can have a go at this too. These are the Fords that I currently own...
First off is this MIGHTY 1.4 Ford Escort Equipe (no it's not an Orion, they changed the naming convention in 1993). Was in the same family all it's life and has done about 70k. I had one of these as my first car and had to...
Yes I am certain that you are right there! The Ford head is ok, but they had to keep standard valve sizes, just like the modern R3s do. A friend was running one on throttle bodies with big valves and a lairy exhaust and that was only 240bhp. Motorsport always does attract a few optimistic claims...
A pleasure. Nice to read about a proper build with some interesting and different things going on, so I can just about forgive a bit of b****cks! Will be really interesting to see what it makes. I've got a MK5 Escort RS2000 rally car and I'd be really interested to build a forged piston engine...
Mine is a daily so I am a bit reluctant to put stiffer mounts in. However, in a few months, I would like to retire it from daily use and keep it just for fun, meaning stiffer mounts would suit it well. Damned if I do, damned if I don't!
Just read through this whole thing, very interesting. I'm a really rally buff, so this engine is right up my street. Seen a couple of R3 Clios out on events, they sound fantastic and seem to go really well. Was really hoping to see what the engine had done, but looks like I will have to remain...
Drove one at the Nurburgring earlier this year. The box is awful. Slow and changes up just when you don't want it too. The box in my friend's eight year old Passat is miles better. It drives "ok" but it doesn't have the "alive" feeling of the older models. The styling is also a bit clumsy on the...
