Mine did this for ages and couldnt think what the heck it was. Replaced alternator, checked hoses, new sparks, new HT leads etc etc. New battery and it sorted it for me.

Also - If the cam belt is off, then it makes sense to me to renew everything that belt touches. Your replacing the belt, tensioners etc etc, so why not the pump? I would say the extra £50 would be better spent than wasting an engine. It may never die the existing pump, but to replace it you...

TB - Throttle body, when you press the accelerator it opens the butterfly which allows air into the system to drive the engine. This will need a good clean and you should notice it will be a bit more responsive.

When the belts off, its an extra few bolts and worth knowing its all done properly so things cant bugger up. Amases me how many people skimp on engines when things do go wrong, and could cost more in the long run.

With an energy engine, well. Could do a few small beeather mods. I rekon you have a Mark 1, so you could take off the TB as said and clean it up nicely, will really make a difference. A decat and a exhaust will show gains of a few BHP, but dont expect 10BHP over what the engine does without...

He really must of rammed the gear in. It is really hard to engage down a gear when going quite fast so he must have shoved it in and hoped for the best.
