old cars will leak oil, if its not puddling underneath or gulping a litre through the rings/stem seals every 200 miles I wouldn't worry
there is no 'cam cover' as such on the F4R, its an all in one piece that has the cam journals on it as well so yes to reseal it you have to pretty much...
they work well for just being solid top mounts, the geo changes achievable with them however are minimal
camber bolts or slot the bottom suspension holes will get camber more easily
just about to clock 121k here, full history and oil changes every 6k since I've owned it. about to do the aux belt this weekend and then it'll be good till cambelts due late next year :)
same thing happened to mk1 scene few years back, tight Renault 'enthusiasts' wouldn't pay a penny for anything so people started breaking for spares as they were coming up so cheap
now there are hardly any mk1's left
not that I'm complaining, I'm one of said tight arses, and car killers!lol...
as above, they rarely make stock power, but they're not shy, wind them up to the limiter in 2nd/3rd and you'll have a giggle :) (belts done first, lol!)
oh and sack wire brushing the brake discs, that's mad, the pads do that for you!lol!
I would bother with brakes unless they fail to scrub off, I'm using a car currently that had been sat for 3 years nearly, brakes are fine. just be sensible about it, if they don't stop you, grind a lot or vibrate then yes change them. but don't just chuck money at it for no reason imo.
Lad called Bish used to crank out low 13's in 'just' a Williams powered mk1, think he had cams and a super sprint and an off the shelf chip but little else.
ran that on semi slicks and it was all in the launch, the boy couldn't half launch it
if you can get 60ft's down to around 2 dead on semi...
1/4 mile is dull if your there to race other cars, soon as you get the bug and start chasing 60ft's and trap speeds and pushing decent times against your own performance, that's when its get fun :)
the clio 172/182 lump is the F4R the mark 1 engines are F7P or F7R (1.8 16v and 2.0 16v Williams, respectively)
and yes, much easier as just plug the loom from the F7 series engine straight in and internal wires don't need to be touched, provided I would guess you use a phase 2 loom and phase 1...
bugger of a job to splice the looms to get the mk1 clocks working on the mk2 sport engine loom. and you have to decode the ecu for immobiliser.
check my trakc car project thread in the projects section though, I'm doing it the other way and transferring an complete 172 wiring and running gear...
all I'd being to that is a full pro paint correction, perhaps refurb the wheels if the need it, fully clean and seal underneath and get it valet'd
the new steering wheel from Renault and enjoy, sparingly :)
great purchase!
I heard it'd been tracked though ;) rofl! not in a position to buy currently chap as the 182 needs work to sell and tbh still enjoying it, but cheers ;)
16-02-2014 - 91 Days to Bedford
Made some progress this weekend on the car, unfortunately no pictures as yet but will attempt to grab a couple when I can.
Dan and Ron popped over to give me a lift and a motivational boost on the work, so cheers to both of them for the help :)
Firstly we...
bolt on mods are fine, so long as it can be easily put back to standard it wont be devalued by them, so crack on imo
I have an itch to scratch with those panda's, no idea why but I really want one, lol!:o
