They're the door sensors/switches, so it knows when the door is open/closed. They bolt in from behind the interior trim i think.

Losing 1 abs sensor shouldn't kill the speedo reading as far as I know. I've had one die at Oulton and it was fine.

If you're getting stock/oem type pads, look for ones that have GG printed on the code on the backing plate. That's the highest friction coefficient for a road rated pad. Most are FE or FF.
