You've pretty much answered your own question, where your current cable runs to the cigarette lighter, instead find the cable that goes to the stalk and becomes live when the sidelights are turned on. This cable can be found in a variety of places to "T" into, it goes to window switches, dash...

LG Viewty's (the phone) can record at 120 FPS, you could use a load of those? (serious suggestion for a cheap option btw)
